Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This past Fri-Sun was our first Men's Retreat at Christ the King. Top kudos to Joe Acanfora and Don Rohr for getting a great team of leaders to organize it up. Several men brought their sons (adolescent and adult). Also in attendance over the weekend were leaders and Scouts from the Troop of St Ann's, Amsterdam. They are frequent guest at the SLC and have helped much with their projects.
Also on Saturday the Daughters of the King held a one day retreat. The original plan for using the Library had to be changed when 70 signed up for the day. We also inducted the new officers for the year.
Today, May 1, is the meeting of Episcopal Charities, the SLC Oversight Committee, The Standing Committee, The DDF and the General Convention deputation. After the 11:30 Eucharist we will have the groundbreaking for the Infirmary of the Holy Child Jesus adjoining the Beaver Cross Ministry. The infirmary will be named in honor of Art and Marge Bates in recognition of his history of heroic service. Full Day.
Tuesday, May 3, the Deans meet at 11:00. The Eastertide Eucharistic Holy Hour is at Noon at the Chapel of the Healing Center. Everyone welcome. Lunch follows.
The regular Tuesday 10 a.m. Service of Healing is permanently relocated to the main Christ the King Chapel because of the increasing attendance.
Clergy:
Scott Garno will become rector of St Matthew's, Unadilla after his priestly ordination. He will be ordained Deacon next month at the convention. He graduates this month from Trinity.
Father Don Gardner continues to recuperate from a fracture.
Father John Sorensen has accepted a call to a parish near Philadelphia. We wish him well in his new appointment. He was among the first to introduce the "Disciple" bible study; made significant improvements to the buildings at Trinity, Plattsburgh; and he played a key role in the site selection of Christ the King Spiritual Life Center at Greenwich, logging over 6,000 miles as chair of the site selection sub-committee.
Canon Rue Moore has retired from Chatham and is relocating to an assisted living facility near his son in Philadelphia. Father Moore served for many years as Chaplain at Albany Medical Center and was active in the ethics committee. He later served at Duanesburgh. We wish him the best in retirement.
Last Thursday and Friday the Synod of Province II met at the Century House in Latham. I celebrated the opening Eucharist on Thursday. The focus was on getting ready for next month's General Convention at Columbus. Bishop-elect Bill joined the bishops and the lay and clerical deputies.
Sunday, Bishop Dave made a visitation to Trinity Church, Gouverneur.
Mother's Day weekend I will be in Maryland to administer Confirmation at the request of the bishops of that diocese.
Registrations for the Diocesan Convention are pouring in.
Beaver Cross youth camp applications are also pouring in dramatically over last year. To check info or to register click on http://www.beavercross.com/. A great program is in the work for all campers. This is one of the most rewarding experiences you can provide for a young person.
LORD JESUS, in your holy resurrection the new and final act of re-creation brought about hope for the whole human race: give us such joy in your Easter victory that we may with vigor declare it to our world. Amen.
In Christ,
+ Dan
