Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Church School Alert: This coming Saturday, Aug 26, is the kick off equipping day for Sunday Schools with PLUG INTO THE POWER: Tools for Teaching from 9 to 3:30 at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. I'm hoping to see every parish represented. A principal sign of growth is church school participation. (Sadly, the opposite corollary is also true: declining church school invariably leads to parish decline.) Choose this week to strengthen your missionary outpost. Register your parish Team (clergy included) at http://www.albanydiocese.org/ministries/education/. Pre-register cost $15. $20 on Saturday.

Workshops Include:
Teaching Kids with Special Needs
Family/Intergenerational Ministry
Adult Programming and Curriculum Review
Workshop Rotation Module
Youth Ministry

Deacon Laurie has organized a superb day with quality materials, and experienced personnel. Just being with others committed to the ministry of teaching becomes an encouragement. I hope to see you there.

Retired Clergy & Spouses, and Widow(er)s Summer Gathering at CtkSLC on Wednesday, August 30: 10:30 coffee, 11:00 Mass with lunch to follow.

1st TIME EVENT: Family Camp, coming up Labor Day weekend (9/1-4) at Christ the King. Families will enjoy many of the great activities the kids did at Beaver Cross this summer, including use of the new waterfront with the canoes and water trampoline, the high and low ropes challenge courses, fishing, hiking and family fun. This is a great event to which you can invite friends and neighbors for a fun weekend get-away and friendly introduction to Christian community. Registrations can be done on the phone at 518-692-9550 or online at http://beavercross.com/youth_ministry/event_registration.htm. Patti Gibbons is directing this family weekend, and she can be reached at CtKSLC pgibbons@ctkcenter.org. Cost is $375 for up to 4 people (kids under 5 don't count); $25 for each extra person. What a deal!

Tuesday, September 5, Holy Hour at noon in the Healing Center Chapel.

COLLEGE-BOUND: At convention, I referred to an upcoming weekend for young people headed to college. CtK's Center for Youth Ministry will offer an overnight seminar for high school juniors and seniors with their parents - "Making the Move: Getting Ready for College" will take place Friday & Saturday, September 29-30, at CtK. TJ Foltz, veteran youth minister and Eastern University professor, will be the resource speaker for this unique opportunity for all who are making college choices and transitions. Registration is $89 for the seminar (includes lodging, meals and resources). Register online at http://beavercross.com/youth_ministry/event_registration.htm, or by phone at 518-692-9550

Please pray for Mary Denney, recovering from arm surgery. Please pray also for Lay Canon George Marshall who is having surgery to repair a torn retina.

Clergy Appointments

The Very Rev'd Gary Kriss will commence an interim ministry in September when he becomes the acting Dean of St John's Cathedral in Albuquerque, NM, Diocese of the Rio Grande. Continuing the ministry at St Paul's, Salem will be Father Fred Curtis.

Father Matthias Onyendi has accepted a call to become Rector in the Diocese of Texas. We wish him and Goodness God's blessing as they commence this new ministry.

Consecration Tip: The day of Father Bill's consecration coincides with a festival in downtown Albany. The easiest way to access the State Convention Center is to take I-787 and exit where it says Empire Plaza. Those parking in the sheltered underground garage ($2) can drive directly in. Reminder: all passengers must have photo I.D.

The Diocese of Down and Dromore will be represented at the Consecration by Bishop Harold and Liz Miller, and also the Archdeacon, the Venerable Gregor McCamley and his wife Rosemarie.

LORD JESUS, strengthen your disciples in this Diocese to serve you with unfettered loyalty, to embrace and every hold fast the truth of your Word, and to let our lives be formed, re-formed and transformed by your Holy Spirit. Amen.

In Christ,
+ Dan
