We have an exciting weekend of worship, workshops, and recreation. Fr Nigel will be leading our Saturday evening Healing Service which is always powerful. And on the lighter side, Fr Marty Wendell is coordinating our open mike entertainment (pre-screened) Saturday evening. The Daughters of the King from throughout the Diocese will be leading a Prayer Walk at 2 PM, Friday afternoon starting at Tibbits Auditorium. Everyone is invited to participate. We will walk and pray the grounds of Camp-of-The-Woods prior to our Convention meeting.

There are over 30 workshops scheduled; beginning Friday afternoon with the “early bird” specials. You can see a list of workshops, their description, and times at http://www.albanyepiscopaldiocese.org/2009WS.pdf . We will be adding a workshop by Bishop Alpha Mohammed, retired Bishop of the Diocese of the Great Rift Valley. He will share his experiences evangelizing the Muslim community. Bishop Alpha was our guest about 6 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed Convention. So, when he was invited to attend another event in the United States this June, he contacted us and asked if he could come and enjoy our convention weekend again.

Holy Order Interest Meetings. Bishop Love will be holding three Holy Order interest meetings: May 30 & 31 and June 21. He will be accompanied by Canon Bob Haskell, Canon to the Ordinary, Fr. From the Mudge Family in Peru. Fr Shaw, Mtr Julie, and daughter Lydia are in Peru on a long term mission. This is their May 10 newsletter minus the pictures (easier to send for us). We hope to add their newsletters to the Diocesan Website within the next week.

El Día de Madre

Today is “El Día de Madre,” Mother’s Day. What Woodrow Wilson started as Mother’s Day in 1914 in the United States has taken hold in Peru in a major way.

For Mother’s Day, Lydia, Julie, and I attended a Spanish service at an Anglican Church in the Surco district of Lima, on the seminary grounds.

Then, we celebrated with a lunch in Larco Mar, in the Miraflores section of Lima, where we also viewed the new Star Trek movie ( Star Trek: Viaje a las estrellas), at a showing in English with Spanish subtitles. We liked the service, the lunch, and the movie very much.

For lunch, Julie and I both had octopus ( pulpo), in a spicy chile type of sauce, with potatoes (papas). Chicha Morada was our beverage, a purple drink, made from corn.

Meanwhile, we plan to move into our longer term apartment on May 25, and we are ahead of where we thought we would be in language learning.

God bless you! Shaw, Julie, and Lydia
