Deacon’s Retreat – October 26-28
downloadThe Annual Deacon’s Retreat of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany will be held October 26-28, 2018 at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. This is free for all Albany Diocesan deacons. To register click here

Our retreat leader this year will be The Rev. Dr. Steven Peay, Research Professor of Homiletics and Church History, and past President and Dean at Nashotah House Seminary.  Our retreat theme will be “Pray and Work: Benedictine Spirituality and Diaconal Service.”   We will also be renewed and refreshed by worship, praise music, and plenty of time for quiet reflection and meditation.  Our clergy spiritual director Fr. Bill Cooper will also be with us for private confession and reconciliation.

Priest’s Retreat – November 7-10

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I invite you to join me for our annual Priests’ Retreat at Christ the King Center, November 7th – 10th.  This year’s retreat leader will be our dear friend, the Rt. Rev. Harold Miller, Bishop of Down and Dromore, Northern Ireland.  He will be giving five meditations entitled “Shepherds and Shepherding” based on the 23rd Psalm.  Bishop Harold is a very gifted preacher and teacher with much to share.  I know he will be a blessing to each of us.  I pray that you will be able to join me and our fellow priests for this special and holy time of rest, spiritual nourishment, worship, prayer, and fellowship.

Our time together will officially start with Evening Prayer at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 7th, and conclude with lunch on Saturday the 10th.  Check-in will start around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.

In past years, the Priests’ Retreat has been held on Tuesday through Friday.  I ask your indulgence in my adjusting this year’s retreat by one day.  The reason for doing so is that I would like to use the final hour of the retreat normally assigned as the “bishop’s hour” at 10:00 a.m. to continue our conversation about B-012 allowing our bi-vocational clergy to be present without taking additional time off from their secular jobs.  I will be inviting the deacons of the Diocese to join us for that hour together.

I will be issuing a pastoral letter during that time outlining and explaining my response to B-012.  As I stated when we met on September 6th, I want the clergy of the Diocese to see the Pastoral Letter first before it is released to the whole Diocese.  It is my expectation that you will share the letter with your congregation at the conclusion of your Sunday morning services.

It is my hope and prayer that as many of our priests as possible will attend the entire retreat.  It is appropriate for your parish to pay for you to attend the Priests’ Retreat.  If they are unable, as in the past, partial or full scholarships will be available for those priests who need financial assistance.  Register online by clicking here or to download a hard copy for registering by mail using this form: Priest Retreat Registration

Thank you for your faithful ministry.  I look forward to seeing you on November 7th, or at a minimum, Saturday the 10th.

Faithfully Your Brother in Christ,

+Bill

Bishop of Albany
