Safe Church

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Episcopal Church has updated the misconduct prevention policies for the whole Church. Please be aware that the new policies are mandated for every parish, worshiping community, institution, organization, school, and agency of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany (EDOA).

The EDOA Online Training Program is available for churches in the diocese. For more information about online training please contact the diocesan Safe Church Minister, Fr. Michael Gorchov via email or by calling him at 518-273-7351 x. 4.

Live training seminars for the new policy requirements will be presented to diocesan staff  and at Diocesan Convention in June. Parishes interested in hosting a regional Safe Church training event should contact Fr. Gorchov.

Please also be aware that beginning in October 2018 all employers in New York State must adopt a sexual harassment prevention policy and provide training, or use a similar policy and training that meet or exceeds the new law’s minimum standards.

Relevant documents, posted below,  can be downloaded from this page as well as answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

The information outlined above represents a considerable investment of time and resources for our diocese. It is my prayer that we approach these new regulations as an opportunity to show our commitment to the safety of children and all vulnerable people who have been placed in our care.

Yours in Christ,
Bishop Love
