The Reverend Karen Malcolm completed Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA, directly after graduating from Moravian University and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. She resigned her commission as a Major in order to be home with her children. Karen and her husband, David, have two daughters. Elle teaches children with autism and other sensory disorders and is a certified adaptive snowboard instructor. Kate is a Captain in the United States Marine Corps and serves as a JAG officer. Kate proudly wears her mother’s Mameluke sword.
Karen has been involved in a number of Diocesan ministries, including Oaks of Righteousness, an outreach ministry to children in Troy, NY; and as Executive Director of Healing A Woman’s Soul, a not-for-profit in the Episcopal Diocese of Albany that provides support to survivors of domestic violence and domestic violence awareness/prevention training. She is a veteran and a survivor of domestic violence. Karen is pleased to be able to serve veterans with the Welcome Home Initiative as a part of the Healing Ministry at Christ the King.
Karen eventually took her fingers out of her ears and responded to God’s call to ordained ministry. She was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church in 2015, and serves at St Michael’s Church in Colonie, NY.
