The Rev. Denise Cabana

Rector: St. Luke’s the Beloved Physician, Saranac Lake

I grew up in Western MA and attended college out in the Berkshires. My first master’s degree is from the University of Maine, and is in Higher Education, focus on Counseling. After working at the College of William and Mary, I moved back to New England and left higher education for a position with a Conference of Churches in Manchester, CT as the director of a shelter for people who are homeless and a soup kitchen. I was later hired as the executive director of this organization and served with them for a total of 11 years. It was during my time with the Conference that I discerned a call to ordained ministry. My husband and I moved to Alexandria, VA where I attended VTS, graduating in 2002 and my husband found a job he loved. I returned to CT to serve as an Associate for four years. I then returned to the DC area to rejoin my husband who had stayed and commuted to CT every weekend (God bless him!). I then served for 9 years as rector of a small church in Southern MD which was part of the Diocese of Washington. In 2015 I returned to New England to be closer to parents who both had significant health issues. During this time, I served two churches in CT before arriving in Saranac Lake in October of this year (2025). My husband Doug and I have a dog, Gus, a cat Harley, two grown sons, Chas and Jesse and 5 grandchildren.
